It was my baby girl’s first birthday party last week and Phill and I celebrated in our home with close family. Rose doned a beautiful blue dress for the occasion and was in fine form all day (despite coming down with the cold shortly after). Unsurprisingly she thrived on all the attention from grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins.
I went with a cute unicorn theme for her birthday party as her Nanny had the idea of making her a unicorn cake. And wow did it look good! She also made loads of cupcakes too. Since it was her birthday, Rose also got to have a little bit of her cake, which of course she loved.
When it came to decorating the house, I got the mythical unicorn ultimate party kit from Party Pieces, which includes a blue unicorn plastic table cover (which I’ve put away for next year), paper plates, cups and napkins, happy birthday banner and balloons. I also got the most stunning unicorn and rainbow cupcake kit from them, the cute ‘lets eat’ wooden food sticks , the glitter ‘one’ candle for the cake, and the rainbow paper lanterns which we hung in the garden.
And that wasn’t all! I also got some beautiful unicorn party pieces from Dazzle and Fizz – including the awesome sparkly wands (again, I’ll be keeping these for future birthdays), rainbow paper plates, cups and napkins – because, let’s face it, you can never have too many of these when hosting a party.
Rose also had a stylish new wooden highchair from Koo-di to sit in whilst she devoured her birthday lunch.
Thankfully, the sun shone for us so we weren’t all couped up indoors and could enjoy the garden. Phill put alot of effort into creating a little outdoor kids corner for the party. He painted our tired little outhouse a vibrant purple colour and painted the adjoining wall with blackboard paint. He also put down some artificial grass to make our back-garden more child-friendly.
And let me tell you, the blackboard wall was the best idea ever! We stole the idea from our friends and it was a real hit with all our guests – children and adults! We bought giant chalk, regular chalk and chalk pens and got everyone to write a birthday message to Rose. Phill did the most amazing hand-drawn unicorn for Rose, and I have a feeling he’ll enjoy the blackboard wall just as much as Rose will in the coming years 😉
Needless to say, Rose was spoilt with attention and presents on her big day. Thanks for all your birthday wishes for Rose, we really appreciate it!
