A trip to the woods turned out to be just the thing to take my mind off returning to work after maternity leave. The lovely folks of Finnebrogue Woods invited me along to their launch day a few weeks ago in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland. You may have seen some of my Instastories from the day if you follow me on Instagram?
I was expecting this place to be beautiful, but it wowed me way more than I thought. Less than an hour’s drive from Belfast, you’ll find the extensive woods, complete with lake, beautiful dexter cattle and a majestic tipi. What an enchanting venue this will be for weddings and other special occasions – anything that warrants a ‘party in the woods’. The woods are owned by a husband and wife team and their new venue venture is their way of sustainably growing their 200 acre lake-side farm. Aside from their farm and the new tipi business, they also supply top quality firewood, dexter beef…and fishing experiences! That’s one great business model, don’t you think?
On the launch day we enjoyed a lunch of succulent dexter beef in the tipi, super gin cocktails and music by local band Scorpion. We ended our trip with a tractor ride around the extensive grounds, where I found out that the woods were used as a filming location for Game of Thrones.
I also took the opportunity to take lots of pictures of Mum and Rose in the beautiful surroundings. We all had a wonderful day and I wish the Finnebrogue Woods team all the best in their new venture! I’m sure the place will be a huge hit with nature loving brides and grooms. If I were the marrying kind, this place would be top of my list!
