I thought it was about time I did a beauty update on the blog. I was kindly sent some items to try from Clarins and Smashbox. I’ve had really great experiences with these brands in the past and this time around was no different.
First up, I have three brand new Clarins lipsticks to add to my lip collection. Of all the items on my dressing table, you’ll find I own far more lip colours than anything else. For me, lipsticks are a great and affordable way to update your look. These ‘Jolie Rouge Brilliant‘ lip colours are made up of pearl particles, colour pigments and high-shine ingredients. They are enriched with organic marsh sapphire extract and mango oil so feel very moisturising upon application. Plus, the gold casing is very luxe and will have you wanting to reapply throughout the day!
I consider these lipsticks to be grown-up version of lipglosses – really shiny and glossy but not sticky or gloopy. They are going to be well used during spring/summer when I want a lighter and shinier lip colour. The colours I have are Rose Blossom, Fig and Raspberry. All of them are gorgeous on and very wearable. My favourite is probably the Rose Blossom.
To go with the lipsticks, I was also sent the Clarins Lip Perfecting Base, which you apply before lipstick to help keep lock the colour. It’s definitely not the most robust lip base I’ve used as my colour completely faded upon eating. However, it is very moisturising on the lips thanks to the ingredient shea butter. It also contains gamma oryzanol and tocopherol to protect lips from the harmful effects of free radicals.
All these Clarins lip products are available to buy now.
Next we have three Smashbox products. The Smashbox Full Exposure Waterproof Mascara in black is a hard working mascara and really lengths and thickens my lashes with just one application. I can see why it’s a firm beauty favourite for many. The wand is very big on this mascara so if you like precision when it comes to mascara application you might find this quite clunky to use – especially if trying to get at your lower lashes.
The Smashbox L.A. Lights blendable lip and cheek colour is a brand new product and I received the colour ‘Beverly Hills Blush’ which is a peachy pink with a golden shimmer (see swatch below). I know I’m going to use this alot during the summer as I love to create a summery dewy glow. It’ll definitely be one thing I pack for my summer holiday as it’s a two-in-one product for lips and cheeks.
Finally, I was really excited to start using the Smashbox Photo Set Finishing Powder as – shock horror – I’ve never used a product like this before. Since I don’t have oily skin, I’ve never felt the need to matify my make-up with a powder. However I’ve been very tempted in the past to invest in a powder like this to see if it helps keep my foundation in place for longer. Currently I use the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water which I love! The powder has been really easy for me to use. I just dab my large powder brush into the fine white powder and glide it all over my face after I’ve applied foundation and concealer. It feels so light on and I do believe it helps set my make-up.
