If you’re looking for a unique Christmas gift this year, have you thought about giving the gift of art? I adore art and Phill and I have countless art prints, illustrations and limited edition art pieces in our home. I grew up in a home where art filled the walls and now my home is the same. I don’t do bare walls! Art makes me happy and whilst Phill and I can have quite varying tastes when it comes to art, I love that we can express our personality in our home with work from our favourite artists.
Many of my favourite artists hail from my home of Northern Ireland and I love discovering new artists to be inspired by. Since it’s Christmas, I’ve put together a mix of festive art prints which I adore, along with some not so festive pieces which I think would be amazing to receive at Christmas.
Phill and I bought our first Shannon Bonatakis print last summer in LA. We got the beautiful ‘The Fairest One Of Them All’ from the Wonderground Gallery in Downtown Disney, Anaheim. We both fell instantly in love with her big eyed version of Snow White and she now hangs proudly in our hallway with a variety of other Disney art.
I have four Liz Clements prints and they all hang next to eachother in my dressing room (see two our of four of them here). I adore all the women she conjures up in her mind. Liz does commissions and one day I’d love her to do her version of me. I just think that would be so cool!
I featured Eimear Maguire, the Dollybirds artist, on my blog back in 2014. Not only does she share the same surname as me but she also lives very close by me! I fell in love with her enchanting bird paintings when I spotted them in Avoca a few years ago. I purchased one of her beautiful birds and it also hangs in my dressing room.
Not only is Kelli a talented artist and graphic designer but she’s also one of my favourite bloggers and I’ve followed her journey for many years now. I love her feminine pretty art and her blog photography is absolutely stunning.
I adore Andrea Kett’s quirky depictions of females. Andrea calls her fans ‘Collectors of Superior Smut’. I always associate Andrea’s work with Christmas as it was at this time of year I happened upon her ‘Magenta Lovelace’ print on a gift bag in TK Maxx. I put one of Phill’s presents in the bag every year because I love it so much. This year I purchased a pack of Andrea’s Christmas cards…but these are not to be sent! I’m going to keep them and frame them.
Sara O’Neill is another Northern Irish artist whom I’ve featured on Willow Lane. Sara is something of an all-rounder as she’s a fashion stylist and illustrator, and she’s constantly wowing me on social media with her beautiful photographs from her life on the North Coast. Scarlett Johansson is one of my ultimate girl crushes and I love Sara’s depiction of her.
Whilst I don’t own any Of Life and Lemons prints I have bought some for my friends over the years. I may also consider buying this print for my mum as she’s a gin lover. They do fab retro style prints and witty quotes, all of which are really afforable.
I was only recently introduced to the work of Neil Shawcross via the Art Loves website – which showcases a range of Northern Irish artists. There is a wonderful art and design culture in Northern Ireland which I’m very proud of. I was instantly drawn to this limited edition Hersheys ice-cream painting.
I wish I had put Talula on my Santa List this year (although she did appear on this wishlist). I can’t believe I have yet to own a single Anarkitty piece as Phill and I have been long-time fans of this artist, who is also from Northern Ireland. I first fell in love with Anarkitty’s work when I saw some of her art in a Belfast restaurant. Just this year I introduced my friend to Anarkitty and she promptly bought Talula the very same day. She definitely put me to shame…but maybe Santa is reading this and will leave me a surprise under the tree.
