Ballyhackamore in East Belfast is now seen as the restaurant hub of Belfast. In the last five years or so this area has seen restaurant after restaurant pop up and thrive. The majority of these eating places are independents who serve top quality food so it’s really no wonder a brand new food tour is about to launch in this part of Belfast.
I have friends who live in East Belfast who are constantly raving (more like boasting to be honest) about various restaurants, making me feel bad that I didn’t eat out more! Much to my delight I was invited along to Ballyhackamore’s first food tour with a bunch of other journalists, bloggers and Ballyhackamore foodies! We got to sample the food at all the restaurants I had heard so much about – score!
These were my highlights…
Light & fresh hake at Neill’s Hill
Sharing cichétti’s at Il Pirata
Seafood chowder & more at Graze
Tasty Amuse Bouche & a fierce Ameretto Sour Cocktail at Horatio Todd’s
I’ve been told the food tour tickets will be priced at £29.95 and that the tours will officially kick off in February 2015 and will take place every few weeks. You’ll have a tour guide and the restaurant choices will change regularly as there are so many to choose from.
Our tour guide Mark was incredibly knowledgable about the food scene in Belfast and gave us lots of interesting snippets of information about the different restaurants, the food we were being served, as well as the history of the food scene in Northern Ireland. The food tour was due to last for two hours but actually went on for a good bit longer as we were all a very chatty bunch.
So if you fancy treating yourself or someone else to a truly wonderful foodie experience in Ballyhackamore’s bustling restaurant hub I would say ‘go for it!’ You’ll leave with a belly full of food (and drink) and some great stories to tell.
