I’ve recently treated myself to quite a few new skincare items. Now that it’s officially spring I think it’s a good time to review your beauty routine. What your face needs in winter isn’t necessarily what it requires in the warmer months. Below is a summary of my skincare routine.
Heads up! I have skin that’s more prone to being dry than oily and as I’m in my late 20s I’m also conscious of better protecting and nourishing my skin. I’m fortunate that I do not have spot-prone skin but I do have uneven skin tone. All the products below work nicely for me but they may not be ideal for you. You’ll notice that I use alot of products from L’Oréal! Like alot of us, when we find a brand we like, we tend to buy alot of their products!
MORNING ROUTINE 1
I’ve been using the L’Oreal Skin Perfection Gel-Cream Wash for a while now and I really like it. Unlike other washes I’ve used in the past, this one doesn’t dry my skin out. After I wash my face I gently pat it dry and follow with the L’Oreal Skin Perfection Serum. I was using a different L’Oreal serum until recently but when I was unable to track it down anywhere I switched to this one. I stopped using toner about a year ago, and I much prefer the effect of serum. It just feels so much more gentle on my face and it’s just as effective in minimising the appearance of my pores. After my serum, I put on the Neutrogena Multi-Defence Moisturiser which has SPF 15 and is is lovely and light-weight. I don’t feel like I need a thick or heavy moisturiser in the morning as the next part of my morning routine (below) is about putting on primer and foundation. All that is plenty of protection against the outdoor elements!
MORNING ROUTINE II
This L’Oreal Studio Secrets Primer (buy similar) is a recent buy from TK Maxx. Usually I use a Neutrogena light moisturiser with spf before I put on foundation but I found it hard to get my hands on the same product so I decided to try something different. I really like the feel of this primer and I do feel like it’s keeping my makeup in place for longer. I bought the L’Oreal Lumi Magique Pure Light Primer last month to see if it would give my skin a much-need luminous boost. I’m not sure if it’s making much of a difference but as with many products, you feel good simply by putting it on!
For the last few years I’ve worn the Maxfactor Face Finity foundation but I thought it was time for a change, especially as the seasons are changing. I wanted a lighter, dewier foundation for spring/summer and the L’Oreal Lumi Magique foundation (I bought the shade Rose Pearl) feels lovely and light and silky. It doesn’t have the staying power of my Maxfactor but the latest purchase of the L’Oreal primer as certainly helped this. The first day I wore this foundation I took a little selfie (see below) and a fellow blogging buddy and make-up artist Rebecca Bryson complimented me on my skin so I think the foundation has been a positive purchase!
I also caved in and finally bought BB cream. I got this beauté mediterranea number in TK Maxx at the weekend. I just couldn’t resist the stunning packing! It’s supposed to have an oil-free moisiturising effect, correct imperfections and even out skin tone. I’ll let you know how it goes with this. Are you guys BB cream fans?
I remove all my make-up with the L’Oreal Skin Perfection Cleansing Milk, using cotton pads. I follow with the L’Oreal serum. I’ve just switched to a light-weight night cream as I don’t feel my skin needs such a rich moisturiser now that the weather is milder. Again I’m sticking with my L’Oreal preference and have invested in the L’Oreal Derma Genesis Night Cream. I then dab on my No7 Lift & Illuminate eye cream. I have very thin skin beneath my eyes so it’s an area I want to be kind too, especially as I edge towards 30! My mum always told me to start using eye cream early as she wishes she had of paid more attention to that area when she was younger. Here’s hoping my good behaviour pays off down the line!
I exfoliate my face two times a week with the L’Oreal Skin Perfection Gentle Exfoliator. This product smells amazing (fresh and fruity!) and I like that it’s a gentle scrub, not a harsh one. As I said before, my skin is more prone to be dry than oily so this exfoliator is great for me.
FAKE TAN TIME
I like to sport a bit of a glow during spring/summer and this is the second year I’ll be putting on L’Oreal Nutri-Bronze. I use it only about two to three times a week after a bath or shower. It’s not greasy and drys in quickly. This product is enough to give me a very light natural looking tan. This is not a product for those of you who like deep tans!
