Well the jetlag is beginning to wear off. We arrived home Sunday morning, I made boiled eggs and buttery toast and then we napped for five hours! That was then followed by a thirteen hour sleep Sunday night. This is how tiring flying Forida to Glasgow to Belfast is. But of course, it’s all worth it when you get to spend two weeks in Florida.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, this was our second trip to the Sunshine State together. We decided to stay in the same place as last time as it is on a great location on International Drive (the main area to stay in Orlando). This time however, the hotel was under new ownership (now called the Avanti Resort) and had just undergone a massive revamp. The rooms were so much nicer, the pool bigger and a lot more pleasant, plus they served Starbucks in reception. Hooray!
For our first full day in Florida, we decided to visit Disney’s Magic Kingdom. The street parade at the end was the highlight. Lots of singing, dancing and camp acting by the princesses and princes! It was so cute seeing all the little children’s captivated stares but Phill and I were in stitches laughing at the elaborate nature of it all. Brilliant fun! I think I may do a separate post on Disney as we have so many great photos from all the parks.
We of course returned to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. The new Despicable Me ride at Universal Studios is what I was really looking forward to and it didn’t disappoint. It was such a fun extension of the two highly successful movies. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure is also a must-see. It sounds corny, but it is like walking into one of the movies.
On the days we weren’t at Disney or Universal Studios, we lay by the pool reading, cooling off in the water every half hour! We also squeezed in quite a bit of shopping. There are two massive outlets in Orlando and between the two of us we picked up five pairs of shoes! Florida Mall and Millenia Mall were also visited. Both are such beautiful shiny malls with stores that are all impeccably ordered with pristine window displays.
And I can’t do a post on Florida and not talk about the food, ’cause there’s alot of it! Big portions every were you look, and I am already missing free drink refills. Pancakes and maple syrup, cheese and bacon burgers, coconut shrimp (to die for), bourbon soaked chocolate cake (ahh), we did stuff ourselves. But at the end of two weeks of eating out for every meal, all I wanted was plain old baked beans and toast!
