Hi and welcome to my guest post. I’m Ian and I blog at rogues + brogues.
Ruth was kind enough to invite me to do a guest post for her whilst she’s on holiday. We discussed topics for my post and got around to talking about how our styles have been shaped and maybe tamed by the style of our other halves.
The BF and I have been together just over two years. The time has flown by, it really doesn’t feel like June 2011 when we went on our first date. Fast forward and we’re home-owners and parents to a socially-challenged cat. We also have the joys of a shared wardrobe. (Within reason as he’s quite a bit taller than me)
When we first met, our style differences were quite apparent. I’m a casual type of guy whereas he is much more formal and well turned out. Even when I had to wear formal clothes for work, I couldn’t wait to get into my jeans and Converse. Now I can wear whatever I want to the office, I have embraced this even more so. However, Caelan’s work dictates a formal wardrobe and he carries this on to his time off.
But things have started to change. He bought his first pair of Converse, he now uses a beard trimmer instead of being clean shaven and he isn’t ashamed to shop in H&M. However, he is still much more dapper than I am when we go out (he rarely goes without a blazer) and more adventurous when it comes to colour and pattern.
I still feel a fraud in formal wear, but when you stand next to someone sharply dressed, you feel like you need to try a little harder.
I think I’ve got the better part of the deal here…
How much has your other half influenced your taste in clothes?
1. Caelan’s mac I “borrowed” to attend the Belfast Fashion Week launch last month.
2. My BF Caelan liberated my H&M jumper that I was too afraid to wear (or wear since).
3. Polka dot shirt I “borrowed” from my BF recently to wear to Belsonic (I got more comments for this shirt than I’ve ever received for my own clothes.)
