I thought I would give you a little glimpse into the room I take my outfit posts in…my dressing room! The best thing about buying our house three years ago is that I got a lovely big room all to myself. For twenty five years I had the small box room at my mum and dad’s and it was bursting at the seams with all my stuff by the end. However, it did mean I was very tidy. Everything had its place and I was clever with my storage arrangements.
With this room I originally wanted to strip the walls and paint it but I felt bad about removing perfectly good wallpaper. However, the room has seen quite a number of furniture changes since we moved in. My first priority was to get floating shelves from Ikea as I have quite a lot of books and I wanted them to be a vocal point in the room. At one point I had a desk in the room and a large 1940s dressing table but then I decided it would be better if we had a space for a guest bed so that the room could double as a guest room.
As well as my book collection, I also like to have my jewellery on display. I have lots of jewellery so it would be easy to forget what I had if it was all tucked away (but I do keep my silver and gold pieces in jewellery boxes). Most of my rings, bracelets and bangles are presented in little trinket dishes, many of which my Mum and I have picked up in charity shops over the years.
Very practical dressing table from Ikea.
I always put music on when I’m in this room. Currently listening to country duo Sugarland.
