My lovely Nanny passed away last month at the grand age of 95. We had a very close bond as she looked after me from I was very young. My Papa passed away when I was just two and half and Nanny said I was the one who kept her going.
Nanny never learnt to drive and walked everywhere. Of course I had to walk alongside her from I was no age and would often complain! To this day I don’t know why I don’t have the lovely slim legs that she did!
When I was growing up Nanny would spend every weekend with us and some of my fondest memories are of her, me and Mum watching Pride and Prejudice (the wonderful BBC adaptation) and Dirty Dancing on rotation!
What made my Nanny such a great woman was her quiet and gentle manner. She never spoke ill of anyone and was in no way materialistic. There aren’t many people like that anymore.
