I got to hear about the key fashion trends for spring/summer 2016 when I attended the West Coast Cooler Fashion Week (WCCFW) press launch in Belfast last week. I’m not a slave to fashion by any means but I always like to have a general idea as to what’s on trend for the different seasons. For this reason I always try to attend the Belfast Fashion Week preview. It gives me time to think about what trends I might want to experiment with and the new items I want to add to my fashion wishlist. There’s always a good mix of highstreet and designer fashion and great ideas on how to make key items work for you.
For women there are four key trends to keep an eye out for this spring/summer – double denim, bold brights, soft romantic textures and sequins galore! For men, laid back tailoring was something to keep in mind. After seeing the various looks, I was most taken with double denim and the romantic silhouettes.

You’d be forgiven for thinking only teens could get away with the double denim look but think again! I was really impressed with the double denim showcase at WCCFW. I might try something different this summer and match my denim pinafore with a denim shirt, in slightly contrasting denim washes. What do you think?

After the dreariness of winter, it is nice to see some bright colours again, reminding us the spring months aren’t too far away! Alot of people aren’t brave enough to go for a full on rainbow bright look but if you’re a bit hesitant try on different brightly coloured blouses with jeans and see which colour best suits you. Not everyone suits bright yellows or reds but you’ll find the colour that works with your hair and skintone.

The buttoned up hipster look continues into spring/summer. Don’t be afraid to smarten up your daytime look with a tailored shirt and jacket.

I just love the soft pink hues of these romantic looks. It is so pretty and feminine and a nice contrast from the often monochrome look I’ve been sporting these past few months. By May I think I’ll be ready to indulge my girly side and get a swishy skirt and an off-the-shoulder top. Maybe I’ll even invest in some ruffles…

I don’t think you’ll find any sequins in my wardrobe – they’ve never been my thing. That sequined jumpsuit is quite beguiling though! I have a black tie awards night to attend in February so I might well try and find something with sequins. Watch this space.
West Coast Cooler Fashion Week will take place from 11-13 March across Belfast. For further information on show schedules, tickets, links to participant retailers and designers as well as the season’s hottest trends, visit www.belfastfashionweek.com.
