Last weekend Phill and I made the trip to Dublin to see one of our favourite country artists Darius Rucker perform at Vicar Street. I have been a long-time fan of Darius’s since his time as lead vocalist in Hootie and the Blowfish. He’s now a fully fledged country artist and I am not the least bit embarrassed about being super excited and giddy at the prospect of seeing him sing and play guitar live. And thankfully he didn’t disappoint. His vocals were absolutely amazing and his band sounded fantastic.
The gig was on Sunday night be we arrived in Dublin Sunday afternoon, checked in to the Castle Hotel and headed straight to Clerys department store to do some shopping and to get some food. Before we knew it it was time to head back to the hotel, freshen up and go for dinner at Montys of Kathmandu – where we had a delicious Napelese meal. Then it was on to the gig where Darius played for over two hours. An amazing night of entertainment!
The next day we couldn’t wait to enjoy a fry-up at the hotel. I loved the modern decor of the eating area in the hotel but it was totally unexpected as the rest of the hotel is very traditional in style. I would definitely stay at the hotel again as (not only did it have a car park!) it was just a 5/10 minute walk to Clerys and Arnotts department store on Henry Street. I much prefer Henry Street for shopping over Grafton Street.
It was lovely strolling around the city on Monday, and checking out all the Christmas decorations and Chrismassy window displays. Arnotts Christmas section was gorgeous. I could have spent a fortune but I resisted as I’m pretty sure I have too many decorations already. And with that said, I’m off to start decorating the house for Christmas!
